How To Track Google Adsense Clicks

Recently, I read an article about how to setup an additional script so you can use Google Analytics to track Google Adsense clicks. A very interesting article, but it also surprised me. Why? Actually there are many free online tools for this purpose, but it seems like not many people realize it. Addfreestats (located in www.Addfreestats.com) is one of these free tools. Since it is a free tool, I want to stress that I get no benefit by writing this article. I also blurred my Adsense stats since Google Adsense TOS doesn't allow me to disclose it.

Addfreestats is a free web counter. Just like another free web counters, you can also use it to track your website statistics (the number of visitors, page views, referrers, top keywords, etc). What makes Addfreestats special is its ability to track Google Adsense clicks! So, what can you find in their reports?

  1. Which Google Adsense ads were clicked by users.
  2. Which pages those Google Adsense ads were clicked in.
  3. Google Adsense CTR, Page Views and Unique Visitors.

How to get started?
First, you will have to join Addfreestats. Don't worry, it's free. Then, you'll be given a tracking code that you must place in all your webpages. I suggest you placing it in your footer section (if you ask me why, please read the "caution section" below). The code looks like this:

And that's all! Now you just have to wait someone clicks your Google Adsense Ads and you can start monitoring your statistics by login into your Addfreestats account. Below are the menus you can use in your control panel.

If you click the icon on the above image, you can see where those Google Adsense Ads were clicked in. Tips: the next report can be used to detect how many Google Adsense Ads were clicked by 1 visitor. For example, total clicks = 2, total page views (PV) = 1, and CTR = 200%. This means that there is 1 visitor who clicked 2 Google Adsense Ads in this page.

CAUTION!

  1. There might be differences between Addfreestats reports and your internal Google Adsense Stats.
Don't be surprised if you find that there are differences between your Google Adsense statistics and Addfreestats reports (usually Google Adsense recorded less clicks than Addfreestats). This is because not every click is regarded as valid by Google.
  2. Tracking code position.
Addfreestats has stated in their manuals that their tracking code must be placed after all Google Adsense codes. If you didn't do it, you will not be able to track Google Adsense clicks.
