Traffics from Social Bookmarking Websites are Useless!
Submitting articles to social bookmarking websites is obviously one of the most favorite ways to getting traffics. These kinds of websites have hundreds of thousands visitors every day; once your article is previewed on their front pages, they will send lots of visitors overnight. While this is a real fact, many webmasters complain that those traffics are useless!
Why do they think like that? Every webmaster is expecting that every visitor they got is converted to sales (no matter how they monetize their websites, by using pay per click advertising or affiliates). This is where the problem arises; visitors from social bookmarking websites hardly click ads! So why bother to get thousands of visitors while none of them is converted to sales?
I know many webmasters who said they got 5000 - 25000 visitors overnight from digg, del.icio.us, reddit or fark. They were complaining the same thing: these visitors hardly click their ads. I personally had the same experience. A couple of weeks ago, two of my articles were previewed on stumbleupon and dzone. Within 10 hours, they sent 300+ visitors to my website. And you know what? None of them clicked my ads.
It is commonly known that the users of social bookmarking websites are net savvies. And net savvy does not click ads. So, is getting traffics from these kinds of websites really useless? Not really. Despite the fact that these traffics are not converted to sales, you can still get some benefits from them. What are they?
- Many of those visitors have their own websites. And there is possibility they link to your article after they read it. I found that I got 10 more links after my articles were previewed in stumbleupon and dzone.
- Around 1% of those traffics are eventually converted to regular visitors.
- Every visitor counts! You will never know if those visitors like your article so much and tell everyone they know about it.
